they were withdrawn from service because they're tires couldn't handle it with the first crash being cause by a strip of metal that fell of a dc-10 taking off right before it. not because the airframe its self was fawed in any way.

They were not scraped,they were retired from service.
i think 1 is in seattle.

Indeed they were 28 years old but all of the Airframes had less flying hours/cycles on them than a 5 year old 747! and how many 5 year 747's have been withdrawn from service???

Yeah i know they weren't scraped, but a grouded Aeroplane might as well be... It really anoy's me to see a marvel of avaition engineering sat grounded just because British Airways and Air France wouldn't sell them to Richard Branson, They should still be flying and pulling in the crowds where ever they land, And an example of what can be achieved when two countries with a common goal put their mind's and money together...

It's called "JET A1" your right it is Kerosene but JET A1 is the grade of Kerosene used in turbine engines, When you phone for refuelling you don't ask for Kerosene, Well you can but you'd probley get a strange reply...

They wern't literally scrapped. Bar 1 in an unfortunate and careless situation on Air France's part, in 1994.
