To bring god into the meaning of this movie is to spit on it. This movie has nothing to do with gods but time travel it self with in parallel universes. Jeez people, the director and writer himself have already said this.

i like to think that to really understand what was going on you had to listen to what donnie was saying about the set paths and how god had a destiny that you could see. you could follow this destiny but you could defy it too. what i think the movie was, was donnie being sent a vision from some higher power (such as the one mentioned in the agnostic discusion with his therapist)that would explain to donnie why he died instead of living and killing all those people.

donnie killed frank in the tangent universe, when he shot frank in the eye for running over his girlfriend. This is why in when frank takes off the bunny suit he has a wounded eye. So Frank became Donnie's guide to get him to eventually kill himself to set the primary universe back on track.

So, the whole stuff with Gretchen and gretchen and her death would be donnie darkos imagination ?.. I think that he choosed in the end to die in order to protect the people he loved ..

Frank guide Donnie until the end...the 'worm hole', the 'path' that take him to the past when everything begin. When he was lied on his bed, he knew that would happen...and prefered to die...because was "better" for everybody, cause his mother, sister, girlfriend and Frank were dead by his interference in the happenings...And he made his choice, die...

That was a wrong explanation. First Donnie wasn't put in a 'path' to save the universe and everything!!! Completely wrong!!
When I saw the movie first time, I got the impression that he was passing through some kind of psychological problem. But in fact he somehow was conected with the future...The beginning it's a little hard to undestand 'cause you don't know how Frank came from the future and saved Donnie of the accident. Frank was a kind of a good messenger.

No wonder this didn't do well in theaters! For such a fantastic movie, this trailer sucks! I know if I saw this for the first time, I wouldn't see it.(thankfully I did see it tho :D) |
