Yes, Elsa Lanchester was the nanny in the beginning that left. She was also in Bell, Book & Candle with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.

I can still recall it after 40 years.
Loved his kids album from the 60's.

There are many biographies that reveal a star to be less angelic than the characters they have portrayed, or for some to be of a kind disposition but typecast as a ruthless villain, but somehow I cannot believe that Danny Kaye could ever be described as "overbearing"
