If it's a higher-level elective, one would expect a smaller number of students. I don't think it really has any bearing on the intelligence of the individual students.

haha, my class in high school, theres only 15 of us, relatively small class.

It's usually like that in more math based sciences like physics, aerospace eng., and math itself of course. It doesn't mean they're all Einsteis, but that's one thing I like about studying physics at university - classes are smaller than in high school.
