Each character here has lost both parents by this point in the show - Jack's dad's been gone and his mom was killed. Little Red was never shown to have a dad and now her mom's gone. Cinderella's dad left with her 'step-family', and the baker's dad dies in an earlier scene. Either way, this is an excellent song and auditions for this show at my school are Thursday the 4th!! **hopes to be Jack**

I always cry when i hear this song! and whats weird is everyone singing has lost their mother, even the baby! The baker did, cinderella did, Jack did, Little Red did! and I lost my mommy to and thats another reason why it makes me cry! i spent years so depressed and thinking i was alone but then i saw this musical and realized "no one is alone" :') its an amazing song in the best musical ever!

I played Cinderella, too, a few years ago. It's such a great role, isn't it?
Singing this song was what I always looked foward to, for every performance. The lyrics speak of such a timeless truth and the music is so gorgeous, yet sensitively performed.
The revival can never match up to this rendition of the quartet. It was too refined. Here, they were truly ACTING the song, rather than focusing on their vocal performance; one can hear the emotion in their voices. So moving!
