I just adore this song and this kind of music. I have always had a soft spot for music from the sixties, though. The lyrics are so simple and it's easy to relate to them. I think it's brilliant.

Considering the sad lyrics, the music and singing style seems very happy. Anyway, I think this song is great, like many other 60s songs, and I'm only 15.

Erik,
What an appropriate tune! In fact, it may well have been playing at the moment of my conception! Understandably, I have a soft spot for tunes of this era!!!
Best Regards, Valerie

Lesley was the third-youngest female artist to have a number one song. The youngest, Peggy March, had a number one with "I Will Follow Him" coincidentally just six weeks before "It's My Party". She was 15 years and one month. Brenda Lee was 15 years and 7 months when she was number one with "I'm Sorry" in summer 1960.

A "cacophony of mixed up incongruent sounds"? You mean "crap", right?

Also, when the Beatles heard this record (in spring of '63 before they were known here), Paul McCartney told George Martin, "That's how I want our records to sound." He was referring to Lesley's vocal, which sounds double-tracked at certain points, and that's the sound the Beatles were after. |
