Muay (มวย) = Boxing (or fighting) , Boran (โบราณ) = Ancient
Muay Boran is a very old traditional style of Thai martial art which developed in Ancient Thailand either to use in warfare or other purposes.

Mauy Boran is the older version of mauy thai, in boran they used those ropes around the fists and not as much safety rules as modern mauy thai.

When they choose the best fighters , they used to fight Muay Boran styles until the government decided that Muay Boran is too violent and they changed to Muay Thai

Tony Jaa was born in the Isaan province of Surin and, is actually of Cambodian descent, more known as "Khmer Surin" the North Eastern region of Thailand. He speaks Thai, Khmer and a little English. Traditionally Cambodians wear a checkered scarf called a "Krama"The "krama" is what distinctly separates the Khmer (Cambodians) from their neighbors the Thai, the Vietnamese, and the Laotians. Tony Jaa is always seen sporting a Krama. Such is on the movie protector and on Thai tv shows. |
